the tortoise and the hare?

Last week Spencer and I spotted a turtle crossing the road... apparently this species, the red ear slider does this to either find a new home of water or to lay eggs. So, Spencer and I pulled over into the ditch, turned on our flashers and hunted him (her) down. He wasn't very shy, he tried to run away from us. So I picked him up and put him in the van. We took an old green plastic recycling bin and put him in it with water and plants. (BTW- Spencer named him "Robot"- go figure). After a while he made weird hissing noises ( I think he was drying out too much). But you can see the moss and algae on his back. He also wasn't too fond of Buster, but Buster was really interested in him. We let him loose in the backyard for a while and Buster stood at the window crying to get out so he could chase him down.
Fun times!! I love creatures.
We took him to Landa Park the next afternoon. We sat him down by some ducks and he took off and dove right into the water from a ledge that was about a foot high. Then he floated happily down the current. Bye Robot... it was nice knowin' ya!!

You named him Robot, eh? Hopefully he's happy at his new home!
